In making the health, welfare and safety of Iowans a priority The Governor is setting a precedent on research, strict safety controls and a responsible approach to expanding the CBD program on the basis of sound medical advice and up-to-date research.
While CBD is available under current Iowa legislation, the CBD industry in Iowa has pressured the legislature to include dangerously powerful THC products in the language of the proposed legislation.
In keeping the focus of Iowa’s CBD program on the potentially beneficial aspects of CBD, while steering clear of the dangerous aspects and risks of THC, the Governor has made a significant effort to protect all Iowans, and especially young Iowans.
The Partnership for a Healthy Iowa and Face It Together, Iowa’s longest standing statewide substance abuse prevention coalition, applauds Governor Kim Reynolds resolve in protecting Iowans from the dangerously high levels of THC proposed in HF732.
The legislation would have expanded access to dangerous amounts of psychoactive THC in the CBD program while ignoring the Governor’s Advisory Board recommendations for a safe limit on THC exposure and strict limits on pediatric exposure to THC, which the advisory board recognized as dangerous.
The Partnership acknowledges the importance of this decision, and on behalf of our constituents, thanks Governor Reynolds and her staff on their hard work.
